Early 99 PCM

Looks like I may need a pcm for my early 99 . Somehow my pcm and predator programmer didn't communicate very well and messed up my stock programming . Dealer says he can't reflash back to my xle8. Unless somebody on here knows of way to reprogram my pcm back to a xle8 the easist solution might be to buy a different pcm. Thought's, idea's or suggestion's appreciated. Thanks.

Clyde

Ouch, so you're stuck with the predator program on the truck, eh?

I think someone has an XLE8 PCM on the For Sale page here.

Re: Early 99 PCM

Clyde,

Sorry but I sold the PCM. But...there might be another solution here. First...I can't believe that the dealer can't reflash your pcm. I thought a reflash overwrote everything on the computer. You would lose your predator programming...but the truck would be back. Just ask for the latest flash.

Second...if that fails...contact a couple of vendors here. DP_Tuner or PowerstrokeRacer both do reflashes. Your truck might be down for a couple of weeks while your pcm is being shipped...but they may be able to reflash your pcm back to XLE8...or go further back to XLE4. Or see if they have a pcm to buy. It might be worth a shot.

Re: Early 99 PCM

Clyde JR,

I'll give you couple of choices.....you can buy a new PCM(we have one)and get a new program of a PMT1, it will be a performance upgrade. Or you can send your PCM to us and Jody can reflash it to the xle8 code for you.

Have the dealer log on to the Ford Dealer's web site and look up the AS BUILT information on your vehicle. I can't remember if this data goes back to the 99s on not, the Ford site was down this morning. This is kind of a pain to reflash it this way and might not even work if they can't get the PCM to cooperate with the new information. It's worth a try and is cheaper than buying a new PCM.

Re: Early 99 PCM

Before you take it back and have the dealership do it(I thought they said they couldn't do it, anyway)check how much they charge to do it(if you don't mind me asking) then go to our prices on our site and compare. I think you might be shocked . If you want a new PCM or reflash you can email Jody at: check your PM's. Re: Early 99 PCM

Clyde...I got a reflashed PCM from Jody. Trust me...if you have the chance to get a PMT1 box...do it! The shifting is much much better.

Re: Early 99 PCM

Yes, the program is newer and the trans control is better. Very nice upgrade from the xle8.

Re: Early 99 PCM

Why do the newer PCMs make more power? Is Mr. Tipton programming the PCM with the upgraded program or is the chip being reflashed? Thanks!

Re: Early 99 PCM

I just compared the XLE8 stock & the PMT1 stock files. The stock PMT1 has better fuel, timing, & ICP tables. The other thing is the I think the PMT1 has the best trans strategy - that is why I run PMT1 trans strategy in my VDH truck.

Re: Early 99 PCM

Mr. Tipton, when you say they have better fuel, etc....does this mean that a stock newer PCM will make more power than a stock PCM from a '99 no matter what code it has been flashed to?

I understand you can program the chip more on a newer PCM, but if I'm understanding what was written on the other forum, you're programming the PCM and not the chip? Please straighten me out. I've been reading a lot about you lately, and understand you are coming with some newer technologies to this concept. Thank you
