EBPV Exhaust Brake

Is it a good idea to use the EBPV as an exhaust brake like the kit you can get from Black Cloud? What are the downsides of doing this? Will it harm it or cause premature failure?

Re: EBPV Exhaust Brake

I did one on my 97 and it worked great for nearly 100,000 miles( Could be working still but I sold it!). Down side? Most kits unhook the factory connections and leave no way for the computer to comunicate with it , but who cares about that ! SP has a new one coming out soon from what I've read that seems to keep that . Its not as powerful as say the Banks brake, but tons cheaper !

Re: EBPV Exhaust Brake

I don't know about the one from BlackCloud specifically, but I had a homemade setup on my '95 PSD to actuate the EBPV as a brake, and it worked pretty good for $10 worth of parts and 1/2 hours labor. It is not as good a a true jake brake, but it was great for holding speeds on steep grades wioth a load (ie, it won't stop you, but it keeps you from having to use your service brakes to stay within the speed limit...)

Re: EBPV Exhaust Brake

Works great on the pre '99 trucks. It was fantastic on my '97. I did it on my 00, does not work nearly as well. Hardly worth the effort on the newer trucks.
