Engine imbalance at about 1100 RPM...

Hey guys, I read somewhere that a good way to see if there are any injector problems is in neutral, rev the engine to about 1100 RPM. If there is something wrong with one or more of the injectors, you'll feel it.

Well, I tried it after a 3 hour highway drive. At 1000 revs, smooth as silk. At 1000 revs, there is definitely an imbalance feeling. At 1200 revs and higher, smooth as can be.

Is this a sign that there is something wrong? Or is that just a normal harmonic balance issue.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Engine imbalance at about 1100 RPM...

Mine does it. I am quite confidant that I dont have any injector issues. I think it is a harmonic balancer issue because mine does it slightly worse during freezing weather.

Mine does too, but only intermittantly. Sometimes smooth as silk, other times shakes like it has the palsy.
If anybody figures it out, please share!

Re: Engine imbalance at about 1100 RPM...

Sometimes when I have my AIC set to charge protect I can feel it but I can speed up 100 rpms and it goes away, if it is an injector issue, then I have had injector problems for 7 years. I would not worry about it.

Re: Engine imbalance at about 1100 RPM...

IMO I don't think that is a reliable test what so ever. I would think you're going to feel the torque converter / fly wheel mass, harmonic balancer more than anything else.

Are you seeing any white smoke heading down the road?

Re: Engine imbalance at about 1100 RPM...

Thanks guys...I figured it was OK. I just saw this test somewhere and tried it...thought maybe something was wrong.

I get no white smoke, only a little black smoke when I really get on it.

Truck runs great...but that's only what I know. I've only had this truck for a year and have no idea what "normal" is.

Thanks again.
Steve
