Apart from the actual unit being sealed up properly I'm not sure. I have heard of others having water in their IDMs as well so its not that uncommon (unfortunately).

Doing a cylinder balance test might help you track down the other injector concerns you mentioned after checking out the wiring.

Glad you got it running and that you didn't have to pay that original repair estimate

I've had the same problem. I take the old one apart and dry it out. Reseal when dry, re-install it when the next one collects moisture. When mine was having issues it would start different depending on the trucks level position (on a hill pointed up, down, side to side.
