Engine serial # question (ELC coolent change)

Hello.

It has reported that ELC coolent is OK for engines made after 2/2/99
and serial number 940614. My Y2K truck was made in Nov. 99, and the Int'l , sticker on the driver valve cover has number 1188039 with a date of Nov 5 1999.

After much wirebrushing on the block I still cannot read the engine serial number near the oil filter.

It seems my serial number is later than the "cutoff", but the number seems to be MUCH later. Did the format change? They could not have made that many engines in 1999!

Is my engine serial number OK for an ELC coolent changeover?

Thanks

I also have a 2000 (Jan 00 build date). I never did find the engine serial number (where is it on the valve cover) - I was told that it was virtually impossible for a 2000 model year truck to have an engine that was not compatible with ELC. I changed over a few months ago and have had no issues.

Thanks for the report dlblazer! Have 4 gallons of Rotela ELC concentrate, and am collecting distilled water (10 gallons so far!) Is Gooch still around? Maybe he will chime in?

When I flushed mine, I ended up using 28 gallons of distilled water. It was nice and clear on the last flush.
