Erratic rpm behavior on 00 DRW F350 powerstroke.

Hello everyone, I am new to the site as my cousin just told me about it. I have already read and found out alot of things on here. Great diesel source.

Here is my problem,

While driving normal the rpm's will start going crazy up and down between 1500-2500rpm's for about 5-10 seconds with the SES light flashing then it will be fine after that and the SES light stays on. Also when it does this I can give it WOT or no throttle at all and it does not make a difference. The only thing I have done latley is unpluged my fuel pump heater since it keeps blowing fuses. (haven't got around to fixing it just yet) Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks in advance,

Tony Moore

find out what that fuse feeds. & check the wiring on that circuit. you could also have a cps going out. thats a cam sensor on the frt. of the eng. down & just above the crank pulley on the pass. side. If it is the CPS buy two on ebay for about $110 shipped. You should have one as a spare (With tools for replacement) for when it does go out.

If the SES light goes on, codes will be set and retained even if the light goes off. Pull the coldes. That will point you in the correct direction. I have not heard this problem before with a CPS so I doubt that is the problem. Pull the codes.

I haven't bought a code reader so when I really need the codes from my truck, I take it to Ford. Don't bother taking your truck to places like AutoZone, their code readers are not set up to read our trucks.
