Fuel filter bowl

What is the best way to clean it out? When I last changed the Racou filter, about 30M ago I know I didn't clean it properly.F250 SD 2000 7.3 now has 100M. Doing the 100M really neglected vehicle service. No leaks yet and never used an additive.

It's kinda hard to get in there and clean without removing the fuel heater, I just sprayed mine out real good with brake cleaner while the drain was open, and dried it carefully with compressed air. Didn't seem to hurt anything.

Last filter change I just stuck my finger in there and loosened up anything that was in there (pretty clean however), then after replacing the filter and lid, I opened up the drain valve with a hose attachment into a large bottle and turned on the ignition. Blew a lot of fuel out and whatever else was in there in a hurry.

Quick thought on something. I noticed a bunch of fluids in my engine valley. Took a look when the truck was starting and noticed a bunch of bubbles and liquids coming from what I was my fuel filter. Basically I noticed that my fuel filter lid was loose and my rubber gasket around it was shot. I replace the filter and tightened it up. I am also noticing that the water in fuel light never comes on and when I switch upen the valve with the engine off nothing drains out. Am I draining it right and if nothing is coming out could this be adding to the fuel I am seeing floating around in my engine valley? Also do I need that plastic cover thingy that sits on tipe of the engine above the fuel filter?

Sounds like you get the top prize C&R. I bought a small brush to clean out the bowl and your method seems the way to go to flush out the rest.
Orbeaoiz there are some posts re: fuel leaks from the fuel drain valve. That may be your problem, if so it is an easy fix. My 'water in fuel' light never went on since 2000. The drain valve should open on a 7.3 with a half turn counterclockwise. I assume you cleaned out the bowl when you replaced the filter. Luck with it!

You would assume I cleaned out the bowl????? Um no. Why would I want to do something so easy that would fix my problem the first time. I prefer to make this a 3 night project!!!!! Thanks for the help though. I am glad to know this needed to be done.

I'm trying to picture it in my head, but I believe it should turn 1/4 turn clockwise to open.
