After troubleshooting and replacing several parts, including a new fuel pickup foot, IPR, FPR, and ICP, I also installed a permanent fuel pressure gauge. When I first start the truck, it is a steady 56 psi. When underway, it fluctuates -4 psi, constantly. At WOT, it drops no lower than 50 psi, but comes right back up to 56 when I let off the pedal, but the fluctuation is still there. I am wondering if this deviation is normal or if it is indicative of something else. Anyone? Thanks for any sage advice.
As with any hydraulic(fluid) system, once your demand is gone, you will have a slight spike in pressure, or a slight drop once an immediate demand is seen. That fluctuation doesn't seem like it's enough to worry me.
Update... after a mountain bike ride tonight, in a very quiet parking lot, I turned the truck on, and could hear the fuel pump buzzing and pulsing while waiting for the glow plugs to cycle. Time to inspect that tomorrow.
