Good idle, no power, check eng. light

Good morning all, first time poster here.

I have started having a random problem when I start my truck. About 25% of the time the check engine light comes on when I start the truck. It will stay on for no more than 10 sec. During this time, the truck will idle fine but if you give it fuel, it just idles. Even if you floor it, there is no power. Also, if you put the transmission from park to drive or reverse to will slam into gear harder than normal. On a few occasion the check light will come on after the truck has run fine and you stop and idle for a min or so. This morning the check engine light came on at a stop sign and I had no power to get through the intersection. After a few seconds, it went off and all was fine. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Monty

Sounds like you may be having problems with your accelerator pedal assembly. The PSD is "drive-by-wire" using a potentiometer in the accelerator pedal. There's also an idle validation switch to keep the engine from revving unless you physically push the pedal, closing the IVS and telling the computer it's ok to increase RPM.

If you can get it to someone who has a PSD capable scan tool they can pull the codes and confirm what your problem is. If you don't have the codes, you're just flailing around in the dark (what I said above about the accelerator pedal is just a guess).

Good luck.

Thanks for the feed back Klhansen. I am learning that the pedal may be my problem. Does anyone know of a good place to get code information in the north san antonio (schertz) area of Texas? Are there any side of the road fixes to get me to a service shop in the event it fails for good?

Thanks,
Monty
