Good truck? Or keep looking?

I'm looking at a powerstroke on craigslist. It's a 2000 F350 Lariat, CC LB 6 SPD with 223k. Since 200k it has had a new clutch, thermostat, water pump, belt, invertors, batteries, and a rebuilt fuel bowl (what the hell is that, anyway). One person I've talked to said that if all these things are going out with only 200k, the truck is over stressed by the lift (9 inches on 37's), and I should keep looking.

Is this really too early to replace the above parts? Has the guy driven the clutch into the ground? Or is it safe?

Thanks for the help.

Depeds on the price. If he has changed these parts out before they failed, nothing to worry about. The clutch if replaced should last and so should the pump. These are pretty normal wear items and you should be glad they have been changed. The fuel bowl is where the fuel filter is housed. It is on top of the engine at the front, under the powerstroke cover. With a 6 speed you should be fine running the 37" tires, but I would defenitely jack up the front off the ground and check the wheel bearings and such. Try to rock the tire in and out to see if there is slop, these cost around $400 a piece plus labor. Woodnthings8 is right, you should at that mileage be looking for a truck with as much replaced items as possible because your going to have to do it anyway. Better to buy a slightly higher mileaged truck from somebody that really cares and has done repairs and maintenance anyday before buying one with 100,000 miles that is about to need hundreds of dollars in maintenance parts. My take.

Personally, I wouldn't touch a lifted truck.....but that's just me. Regardless of everything else replaced already, you can pretty much guarantee yourself that you'll be replacing wheel bearings with the lift and large tires.....that's just the way it is with that configuration. There are so many things on these trucks to look for before buying that someone could (and may already have) write a book on it.

Also, regardless of the miles, at some point you'll be replacing multiple O-rings, the alternator, starter, engine parts, brakes, rotors, ball joints, fluids, etc, etc.
