HELP 150 Mi. From Whitehorse Yukon

7.3 Engine runs OK at above 40 MPH Below that seems like running on one bank. Lots of blue smoke and no power. Changed CPS, no change. Going to Ford dealer in the morning if I can make it back to Whitehorse. Any suggestions appreciated. Internet is lousy here. Might be bad fuel, gave it a big dose of Diesel Kleen, have not run it since then.

If it is fuel that is bad, have any extra fuel filters?
It was almost 20 years ago on my trip through canada that I was having a fuel filter problem with some bad GAS.... (1973 Ford Gal 500 2D) was not fun... made about 150 miles in 12 hours...
Just some thoughts on the matter..
Say hi if you get to Alaska...

No check engine light comes on. Pulled main connection plug to injectors, looks good there. Would it be feasable to try and clean the fuel filter, I don't have a replacement with me ? This all started after the last fuel up, and driving about 100 miles. Could it be the HPOP ? got about 5500 Mi. from last oil change, oil looks fairly clean on the stick.

I travel through there with a big load every year. In fact just got back. Whitehorse Ford will treat you ok. You may want to call ahead for a slot and a chat with a mechanic to give them a heads up on ordering what you may need. Some things take more time there. Donuts and coffee go a long way with the Yukon'ers.

It sounds like an injection oil pressure problem, or maybe even turbo. Try diconnecting the ICP sensor and see if it runs any better. Definitely drain your fuel bowl and see what you get. Not ripping on you, but you're crazy not to carry a spare fuel filter on a trip like that, and you need to change that oil more frequently when towing in those conditions.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thx. Gooch. Will try to get a fuel filter at Napa here in Whitehorse and change the oil tomorrow. Canada day today, nothing open today. ICP ? Injector Control Press. Sensor. I know I should have brought a fuel filter, just left it home, forgot it, got most everything else. 3-CPS 2-Oil filters Serp.belt 2-Air filters etc.

Truck ran fine for a 100 miles back to WH, running at 55-60 MPH, but would load up(fuel) when coasting downhill then blue smoke until 17-20K RPM was acheaved.

Will try the Ford dealer tomorrow. Do you know anything about Horsman Mech. or Inland Kenworth? Anyone else in the Whitehorse area.

I be still hanging on the fuel filter... simple, cheap. Also your challenge reminds me that I too should be putting in an extra fuel filter for that just incase....

Let us know what you find out when things open up again,,,, not looking forward to this weekend(4th).

Well guy's, this was a $600 mistake. Sure could have been a lot more bucks. Filled a half tank (20) gals. with regular gas, unmarked pumps, used the yellow marked nozzle thinking it was diesel fuel as I was doing all along.

If anyone has any trouble near Whitehorse Yukon with there Ford Diesel, DON'T go to the Ford Dealer, contact Horsman Mechanical, Terry really knows his stuff about the Navistar engines. My cost to him was just $20, which included a can of Stanadyne injector cleaner. The rest was oil change Wal-Mart, fuel filters and oil at Napa, campground space over the weekend (Canada Day) holiday.

Thx guys for the support.

BILL1013 - Every diesel fuel handle I've used in Canada has always been a green coloured one.

It's a good idea to ALWAYS look at the pump station to make sure it says "diesel" before you plug it into the fuel tank.
