Well is the truck running or not? you said the truck is not running, if it is running CPS is not the culprit.....

I am aware of your new IPR,

So the truck Runs with the New IPR in it? right? or have you tried it?

the truck will run a bit rough until the air is out of the system.....whens the last time you checked the oil level, and put a fuel filter in it?

it ran until i shut it down because it sounded like it was gonna blow up.. hen it wouldnt restart (dead batteries) it only got to running bad as i was reving it pretty good.. it rev ed up ( with original stumble and white smoke) the lomger i rev ed the less and less rpm i got til it sounded so bad.. so until i get the batteries fully charged , not running , if i could have estarted it would have continued to run just like total crap... you dont think i could be a uvch issue?? one thing i did notice when i had the fuel bowl off was that the hpop was a reman unit...

OK now that explains a little more......

YES NOW I would say UVC issue, or injector tip....

You have no oil issue, or Fuel issue, IF your dealer ship ran a buzz test they can tell if a valve cover harness is bad (or disconnected) as the injectors will not buzz or buzz quietly.....

Do You have modified injectors in your truck? you can have the valve covers off in under 30 minutes, If someone around you can run a buzz test it will tell you what side is bad.......some of them are hard to "see"

For the gurus, could the IDM cause this sort of symptom? I don't recall it being mentioned in all the replies.

For the record, I had a CPS allow my truck to still run - but in a very stumbling manner as I was slowing down the freeway off-ramp. Mine was one of the rare failures in which I let it cool off while I ate lunch and the truck ran fine until I got home, but a code would get thrown once in a while. I replaced it and all symptoms went away.

Yes, very much so. BUT, I would think you would also notice other truck issues, so as your lights flickering inside the cab. Buzzing sounds from under the dash, all kinds of little weird electrical demons pop up when batteries go bad on our trucks. Not saying it isn't the problem, actually its very much worth looking into.

I am curious, once you replaced the fuel pump how many miles did you drive the truck before deciding to tow it? Have you driven it since replacing the fuel filter, and how man miles???

kanman..its not the filter.. i changed it.. it never ran right even right after i swapped pumps.. i nursed it along the side of the highway but i never got back up to speed ( no power)... i swapped the 2 brand new optimas out of the d-max and she fired right up with only the original mis/skip and white smoke... i noticed now when revin it up hard it seems like it running out of fuel and when i let off suddenly its like its starving for fuel??? im thinking ive got an injector stuck open...im gonna order the AE software next week when i get paid...

have you checked the screen on the pick up tube in the tank? said you had rust and crud in the filter housing. i had an 02 with all your symptoms (dont know about white smoke, didnt look for that) and after replacing lots of parts, turns out the screen was cloged.

i just installed the airdog liftpump... we had to drop the tank to do the harpoon mod... funny you ask about the screen it had fallen off... i believe all the crap in the fuel bowl was rust from lack of maintenance from the previous owner... but believe you me its clean now... i took it totally apart and scrubed the snot out of it... but to answer your question it was clean... that was 3 months ago..

so ive got the valve covers off ( whoever said it takes about 30 min must have hands like a smurf cause that just wasnt happening ) and i want to know should i go ahead and do the uvch fix even though there appears to be nothing wrong? is it gonna happen eventually?? so now that ive ruled out that problem, im left with inj. orings and a stuck injector... at 160k miles could i just replace the orings or if im gonna pull injectors anyway should i just replace them?? thanks

If the UVCH connectors are not burnt, there is a clip that you can install to ensure they stay seated.

Replace only the bad injectors - they are $$....
