Help! A strange alarm sound coming from under the dash!

Just hopped in ther beast, started it up and backed into the street and a buzz type alarm started sounding under the dash by the fuses. Thought it seat belt or something---pulled back in and shut off but it wouldnt stop!! I had to pull the battery cables to stop it. Not that loud,,cant hear it from outside but a constant sound , not on and off. What the heck! Im afraid its some type of big warning and I have to go to work tomorrow. Thanks.

Sounds like a relay that's buzzing (switching on & off quickly). This happens a lot with trucks that have a leaky windshield. Was it recently raining? May even be a GEM that's causing it. Did you notice anything turning off/on or any flashing lights?

No rain

Its not a buzz more like a seat belt type beep that is constant. A constant note, not beaping, right in fuse panel area. No other strange activity at all and the truck ran OK but Im afraid its some sort of warning and I shouldnt drive it. Do we have anything like that in these? And, it wont stop even if the truck is off. I think it actually was in the fuse box. lower left of steering wheel

Just spoke with FORD and was told they had never heard of that before. Comforting, eh? He guessed that it could be a stuck relay and said I shouldnt try to drive it because the relay could cause a fire. So now I have to pay $150 for a tow and Illbet the mechanic simply pulls out a relay and slaps another in. Two minutes work will be $1,455,686.02 and $500 for a $15 relay plus tow. I had planned to retire but not now.

If it's the seat belt chime sound, that would be coming from the GEM. Possibly the door switch/key-in-ignition dinger. I din't think it would hurt to drive it, except for your nerves from the constant dinging.

Try messing with the door switches (the WD40 trick) and maybe disable the key-in-ignition switch and see what happens.

Pull the turn signal relay. I think it's' blue and to the left of the radio. May be able to see it if you remove the cover below the steering wheel. Sounds like the noise mine made when the signal relay went bad.

Well, it went away all by its self??

It wasnt a chiming or beeping---wasnt irregular. It was a consistant note like if you held the key down on a morse code key. It didnt waver and wasnt very loud. All I could tell was it seemed to be in or at rear of fuses. but the strange thing is it kep it up even with the key switch off? How could anything in the fuse box keep going with no key on?

Today I re connected the batteries and its gone. God only knows.
