when i am towing my sleds or my camper here in the mtns of wy, i get fairly high egts. when i pull a hill it jumps from 800 to 1200 degrees. Is it ok to run 1200 degrees for a period of 2 minutes or is this to hot? Just replaced my turbo with a Gillett Diesel service Ball Buster. it has a bigger shaft, bigger comp wheel and .84 housing. turbo is great with just a little whistle and no surge!! wondering what save egts are. thanks-

I pretty much will let off when the needle starts going to 1300. I have read that 1350 for a "short time" is ok, no nobody has really determined short time, but I would say less than a minute. Personally I try not to ever go past 1200. Pulling hills with a tuner and a load really drives up the temps. What tune are you running?

At that elevation I can see getting high EGT's, Are you having to let off or does it stay around 1200? You might consider a water/meth injection system. And one other thing to think about is your intercooler, if you haven't done the CCV mod you could have restricted flow from the oil in the cooler. I don't know how much it effects it but every little thing helps.

The International and Ford engineers that developed the 7.3L PowerStroke engine told us you can run all day at 1,200° pre-turbo EGT, but 1,250° is the red line. Don't let it go over 1,250° for more than a few seconds.
The members of TheDieselStop had a national rally at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP), and part of the rally was a bull session with the International and Ford PowerStroke team of engineers. So we heard it from the horse's mouth.
Of course, some folks don't care what Mama don't allow, they'll play their banjo anyhow. So some gamblers use 1,300° as their red line. But of course if they melt a piston they probably won't come back here and brag about it. So I haven't heard of any disasters of running a bit over the 1,250° redline.
With my 60-tow tune and grossing 16k, I have to worry about exceeding 1,250° EGT only for very long grades over about 7 percent and going faster than about 60 MPH. Under those conditions, I'll be downshifted into direct drive and turning about 2,600 RPM. If the EGT gets up over 1,200°, then the cure is to back out of the go pedal just a hair to maintain between 1,200° and 1,250°.
I can't imagine exceeding 1,250° with the 40-tow tune, but I guess if your trailer is heavier than mine, then you could have that challenge. The only time I've use 40-tow (as a test to be sure it worked) , I was grossing only about 13k, so it didn't even get near 1,200° as I crossed the Rockies. (I didn't order 40-tow, but Jody threw it in when he flashed my Evo with DP-tuner tunes.)

Top Job front end replacement. I special-ordered it new and plan to drive it until it quits.
So, is there any possibility of getting over 1250 without towing and with a 6-speed?

Depends on your chip and how you drive - assuming everything else is in good working order.....
No chip. All stock except for the AIS Heavy Duty air intake and filter.

How about the ebv valve removed and running an open one from dieselsite, also a 1.00 housing should be better than a .84, I assume you already have your exhaust done from turbo down. I believe a water/meth. injection as noted will really be the best thing along with some of the other mods. 6.0 intercoolers not that expensive either. I believe the way our CCV was designed, we all have that slugde all over the intercooler and pipes....should delete it and clean everything afterwards.

I would hit hi EGT's too - towing 15k with a superchips, 4" back, AFE etc.
Well I changed my up-pipes. Guess what - I have not hit 800 degrees in 6 months. Before the change - all that exhaust NOT going to the turbo, makes the turbo work harder (spinning faster) and the EGT's would hit 1000 in no time. Since the change - easy brezzy.
