Re: High Sulphur fuel

I am in the refining business.

We sell some USA "home heating oil" to South America for diesel fuel. Our sulphur content is about 2000 ppm. (USA over-the-road diesel is 500ppm.) But I don't know what the max spec is in SA. Could be the stuff from the local refineries is even higher in sulphur.

I do know that SA has higher cetane specs. I believe it is a cetane rating of about 50. You'll like the way your diesel runs on that high of a cetane rating. In the USA, the rating is 40.

Change your oil more often. The high sulphur makes more "acid gas" that takes-out oil sooner. If you are towing, you may want to go down to 2,000 mile change intervals.

Re: High Sulphur fuel

The further south you go, the better the diesel gets. At least from my personal experience. The fuel in Mexico is good.

Who knows?
