I've been able to test the hot leads to the injectors from the main plug that bolts to the driver's side valve cover and all is well.

I looked for the IDM, I've spotted a box behind the F-550 emblem, is this it? How would I access the plug? It looks like possibly remove the fender liner?

I tested all the leads under the valve cover back to the IDM and there are no shorts or breaks. I also removed the IDM and cleaned the ground contacts on it and reinstalled, I still have the same problem. I think at this point the IDM must be bad. I got a price from my Ford dealer for $560, is there any more economical alternative that anyone has found?

Did you have someone pull the codes from the IDM. It will tell you a lot. Could be that your IDM isn't really dead.

Rebuilt IDM's are available on eBay for about $200. Just do a search.

Also check the For Sale section here on TDS.

I got a rebuilt IDM off ebay, it arrived today. Popped it on and I've got 8 cylinders again! I've got about 2 hours of bolting stuff back on and I can give it the road test.

I've heard that these need to be tuned to the truck, is this true? Does a Ford dealer do the tuning if so?

Thanks for the help here, I'd never have been able to figure this out without it.
