Issue #2 solved you'd never guess..

Well, I feel posting an issue without results/follow up helps nobody so here goes.

Was having a hard start issue, typical remedies calls for load test batts, starter test completed etc. I was so sure it was the batts or the starter I replaced both batts and put in a new DB starter.

RESULT No change in lot laboured extended cranking. The starter would feel like it was being overstressed and was getting hot within only a few seconds of cranking.

I also changed the ICP sensor (new from Ford these are not cheap) so Ive got a good one I can cut somebody a deal on. Haha

RESULT no change.

Finally decided to look into and or replace some of my injectors since I had experienced the romps and rough warm ups that went away at full operating temp.

RESULT: Issue solved

Theory: I believe I had a bad #7 injector that was not spitting oil because it was just worn out. With a feeler gauge I could barely slide a .002 under the solenoid body. This one was a no brainer and was being replaced. The others tested ok showing a little wear but could get a .003 feeler in them without much issue. However the #6 had been removed before because it had white orings (instead of pink) on it so I figured it had been replaced. It was showing a lot of carbon on the upper portion of the injector body (see image), as well as looking slightly different in inside the HP oil galley than the others.
What I believe was happening was the hp oil or fuel was leaking into the combustion chamber overnight and partially hydrolocking the motor and stressing the hell out of the starter. Insertion of an orthopedic camera showed what I feel is excessive carbon buildup in that chamber.

In conclusion If you come down with a hard start issue and you've covered all the basics, it could be a less common issue like mine.

Good luck.
