Its seems noone knows Diesal

HI, I have a 2002 7.3 powerstrock diesal truck and its seems to be something exotic cause I can't find any mechanic that can fix one. Here is a summary of what is happening I drove it and it started vibrating big time through the truck when I shut the ignition off then tried to restart it would not start. It finally has started again but it shakes violently when I try to drive it.

Does anyone know why the truck would still run and be vibrating and shaking so much when it's driven.

Any help appreciated
Thanks

First, welcome to the Board. Ask any questions and the knowledgeable people here are always willing to lend a hand. Or just sit and swap stories with us.

Lemme start with a few questions

you say:
started vibrating big time
tried to restart it would not start. It finally has started again but it shakes violently when I try to drive it.

Let's try and isolate the shake.
Does it shake violently when it's rolling or just when the engine is running without the truck moving ?

If it's not rolling, does it shake when it's in PARK or NEUTRAL or only when it's in DRIVE (assuming it's an automatic) ?

Also, where are you located ? Put that in your personal info so someone who might be close to you could be of help, locally. There might be a good bodyman or a good diesel mechanic who could help you out.

Powerstroke's and the International equivalent are on several continents/in several countries. What country are you located?

1. Its spelled DIESEL.
2. There are a few different issues you could be having, and as your description of the problem is rather general, all of them could be the problem.
Injector failure/Injector harness failure.
Torque converter/total transmission malfunction.
One or more sensors on the engine are malfunctioning.
High pressure oil pump malfunction.
Fuel system component malfunction.
Thats just a few of the more probable things that could be the problem.

The best thing you can do is to have it diagnosed with a Ford specific code reader, to see if there are any trouble codes stored in the PCM.
I cannot help you find a DIESEL mech, tho, yer kinda on yer own with that...
Sorry.

Not ball bearings, Ball joints. The shock looking thing wayyy down under your front axle is probably what they were referring to. Called a hydraulic steering damper. HOWEVER. Your truck wont be vibrating while sitting there idling if these are the problem. It would have to be moving. If you mean that when you drive it and it starts to vibrate, then yes, these two components are usually the first thing to be checked. Ball joints can be checked easily. Jack one front wheel up, grab it by the top, and the bottom, and try to shake it. If theres movement at ALL(Clunk clunk) then yes, yer ball joints need replacing. Its a good idea to change out your steering damper at the same time you do your ball joints. Another problem that can cause vibration at speed is worn out pan hard bar (Track bar) bushings, but then you would also have a slight "Wandering" Condition while you are driving, and clunking when you turn.

Take it to an INTERNATIONAL DEALER. Don't waste your time with a Ford dealer (WAY more $$) or the local "expert". Trust me on this.

I would venture to say it's starving for fuel, missing badly thus your "Shakes" Does it sound terrible also? These things sound like they are going to blow up when they are starved for fuel.... knocking / rattleing really bad.
If you take it to an IH dealer, they'll probably scratch their heads,,, I mean, if they can't cross fuel filter part numbers for the PSD,,, then how can they work on them? LOL.....
If it was driving,,, and started "Shaking" ,,,died, then started very hard,,and still "Shakes" I bet the fuel pump is barely supplying enough to run,, or it may even be siphoning just enough to run from the tank,, who knows. (The fuel pump can "RUN" and not move any, or enough fuel, if you hear it cycle on when you turn on the key) SO I would do this...
Lay under the truck on the front passenger side, there should be a metal tube that hangs down nearly to the top of the oil pan and just ENDS there. That would be your fuel/water separator drain. Put a rubber hose on it that is just long enough to drop down through one of the holes in the cross member. Then have someone drain the fuel bowl while you hold a container under that tube. After the bowl is empty, have someone turn the key on while the drain is still open. If fuel does not come out pretty hard, (I believe I have heard it needs to flow at the rate of about a quart every 15 seconds or so) If fuel comes out much slower than that, you likely have a dead/near dead fuel pump.

At least if your pump is healthy, you have eliminated one thing that is possible.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.

I agree 100% with JIM. It sounds just like a fuel starvation issue. Check the fuel pump by doing what he says. WHen the engine runs out of fuel it shakes horribly idleling and moving until all the air is out of the fuel system, then it runs fine.

Thanks to all you guys for your help. I did what Sleeperstroke suggested with some help by shaking the wheels and found the loose piece, I am not sure of the names of these parts like you are but it was the bar (at the joint) that is in front of the bar that holds the two wheels? It was loose at the joint and the bar was attached to both wheels and then the steering wheel???? I know that sounds juvenile but I don't know it that well. That was some great suggestions and information it was a huge help for me to not get ripped off. Now I have to see how the replacement goes. I will let you know.

Thanks again!!!!
