IMHO ,Mobil 1 is great fluid and is available at all of the auto parts stores including Kmart,Wal-mart,target.(Walmarts the cheapest) Availability is what keeps me from using RP,Amsoil,Schaeffer's etc.
Re: just changed out my trans what oil should i put in
If you want "the best", then any synthetic ATF rated MERCON/MERCON V is good. Easiest to get quickly is Mobil 1. I got mine at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago for less than $6 per quart.
The tranny system holds almost 18 quarts. If you replaced the oil-to-air cooler and the torque converter as part of your overhaul the way Ford requires their techs to do it, then you need to buy 18 quarts of new ATF. Pour in 6 quarts, then crank the engine and let it idle for 30 seconds. Then pour in 6 more quarts and crank the engine and let it idle for 30 seconds. Then pour in 4 more quarts and crank the engine and let it idle for 30 seconds. Check the level. You should still be low by more than a quart. Pour in that quart, then wait a few minutes and check the level again. Top off until you're full but not over full.
Schaeffer's #204S ATF full-synthetic ATF is just as good - but no better - than Mobil 1 or Royal Purple or any other synthetic ATF rated MERCON/MERCON V. But if you insist on that brand, then
click on the following link to find your nearest dealer. http://www.schaefferoil.com/dealer_locator.html
My nearest Schaeffer's dealer that carries ATF is over 100 miles down the road. But I don't worry about it since Wal-Mart now carries Mobil 1 ATF.

When I do that, the results show that Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and Autozone all three are Royal Purple dealers in Midland.
