Mine was doing the same thing. Turned out to be the screens in the mixing chamber were plugged. No more worries about that though, I eliminated the mixing chamber and put an inline fuel filter on it instead. Here is a helpful link:

So yea....... dropped the tank and there were pieces of the sender floating on top of the gas, the pick up screen was sucked up into the sender. hopefully the new sender will fix the ole girl!!!
