This looks wrong - can someone identify?

2002 F250 7.3. This looks odd to me, this hose is cut off and seems like it should be going somewhere. Can someone identify this for me?

Make sure you MAP hose is hooked up. There should be a hose going from the map sensor to the intake spider. BTW you should enter the dirtiest engine contest.

edit: here is a pic of the map sensor: http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/3...tt73llgwd6.jpg

You will notice a hose covered in wiring loom that goes to the spider.

That barb is solid though (no hole in it). Not sure what the story is with that either.

Here is where that goes

BTW: I am not sure if it was my dog or my fan that chewed on my oil cap. I'll let you guess!

Is that solid with brass or dried mud?

Thanks guys - it is indeed the map sensor. For some reason it is cut off on both sides. Why would someone do that and what would be the result? Would it explain low power?

Re: Dirty - I've only had this truck for 2 weeks, no time to clean yet!

Thanks again.

Yes that would explain the low power. My guess is that it broke.

Wow! That is without a doubt the dirtiest engine I have ever seen. That's going to take some work to get it all clean and then fix everything that caused it to look like that. I can't imagine that just the leaking boots caused all that. That's a job I wouldn't want.

Looks like it's been used as a mudder, must be up North of Tucky, otherwise it would be Red mud.

Disconnect batteries: thanks, good point. Yeah I'm in NY. It was actually a fleet truck for a construction company previously. I'm the proud new owner at 337,000 miles. I'm hoping as a fleet vehicle it was serviced regularly.

Runs great now that I put a hose to the MAP sensor - what a huge difference.
