main seal????

hey my buddies dads main seal went out on his 2001 i was wonder how hard are they to change out?

Front or rear main?

Most of the leaks that appear to be rear main seal leaks aren't. Anything that leaks on the top side of the motor will pool in the V of the block and run out the weep hole in the back....it ends up coming out of the tranny inspection cover and looking exactly like a rear main seal leak.

thats a good question. i havent actully looked at it he just said that it was. he said he parked his truck at the house and came out later and there was a huge puddle of oil on the ground and also oil all over under the truck like it had been leaking for a while. he was thinking rear main or oil pan. what else do you think it could be? thanks alot

Either the turbo pedestal orings, high pressure oil pump lines going into head or the pump or it could be the exhaust backpressure valve plunger leaking.

But like posted earlier its more than likely not the rear main. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
