Its not in the same league as a BTS or JW built trans just a better factory rebuild.

HD Torque converts

Why not put a HD TC in a stock trans if it is still shifting ok?

My point was that it cannot compete as Smokey said because they still don't allow modification.

A trans with miles on it has a higher potential for breaking. Also when the HD TC gets put there, it might stress the weaker trans more. When it breaks, you would be a fool to reinstall the TC without cutting it apart for cleaning. After that, you have to weld it back together and balance it again. So, unless the seller promises you a free cleaning via cutting it apart, you have to pay for it to be done. IMO, it is better to wait till the trans falls apart completely, rebuild it and add a HD TC.

IF I had gone that route with my trans, I'd be in trouble by now. My diode locked up and I would have to send it out for cleaning.

My local Ford dealer lists the HD tranny for $3,300 including tranny fluid and a torque converter - they are also recommending the 6.0L cooler for all trucks!?

Part of me wants to go with the HD Ford unit as I can't put up the $5,000 for a trip to BTS to get one installed and having it built and shipped here/installed is too expensive for me. Kuddos to BTS however as they must have a good unit/service - curently they are book through Mid December!

Does anyone know anything about the HD Ford unit - it terms of what makes it better? How do you increase the stength of an auto tranny? I've got a mesage into the Powerstroke store but haven't received any replies?

Can I put my BTS valve body plate into the new trans without any problems - don't want to injure a new unit!

Probably won't hurt anything but your warranty if they decide to get tough. Say you put in a better TC and it stresses out the trans, you are SOL should you need warranty. That is unless you can slow talk the service writer and the Ford Rep doesn't come looking at your trans.
