New Pcm and cps and truck still wont start

Hello All,

Wife was driving to work and the water in fuel light came on and she drove in to work and parked it and 4 hours later would not start. First turner would not communicate with pcm. Checked all fuses three times, took forever for the wait to start light to go off and water in fuel light would not come on. Determined the pcm was bad, bought one and still wont start but got these codes 0472 1670 1210 0340, replaced cps and still wont start. Oh and I did drain the fuel filter. I started checking idm harness at valve covers but not realy sure where to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New Pcm and cps and truck still wont start

Welcome to TheDieselStop

Here's some info that may help you figure it out.

P1210 Injection control pressure higher than desired
Possible causes: biased ICP sensor, open ICP signal return circuit, ICP signal circuit shorted to power.
Probably means your ICP sensor is whacked out or the wiring to it is shorted, telling the PCM that the pressure is too high. This will cause the IPR to open, dumping pressure. First thing to try is to pull the connector on the ICP sensor and try starting it. If it fires, replace the ICP sensor. If it still doesn't fire, check the wiring to the ICP.

P1670 Electronic Feedback signal not detected - Means PCM and IDM aren't communicating. Could be a problem where the IDM isn't getting power. Check the fuses a FOURTH time (using a multimeter), and try swapping the IDM relay with the heater fan relay (or some other non-critical relay).

P0470 Exhaust Backpressure Sensor circuit malfunction - by itself shouldn't cause a no-start condition, but in combination with the other codes, could indicate a wiring problem. Possibly a short between the signal wire and power (same place as the ICP circuit?)

P0340 Cam position sensor circuit malfunction - may not have been the CPS, but the wiring to it.

There's a pattern here, and many of the engine sensors share a circuit (specifically the Vref circuit from the PCM). Check to see if you're getting 5 V+/- on the center pin of the CPS connector with the key on. If not, you'll need to track that down.

Hope that helps.

Re: New Pcm and cps and truck still wont start

Made a mistake on one code its 0472 not 0470.

Checked the IDM fuses and switched out the relay after testing them. They all checked good. And I do have current to the relay coil in the socket.

What is the Vref curcuit exactly?

With ICP unpluged it throws a 1280 code and at the plug checked: Blue with green tracer 35ohms, gray with red tracer checked grounded, brown with white tracer checked grounded. Also while I was in there I found what looks like a solinoid on the back of HPOP it had come off. Is this the IPR?

And also checked CPS voltage its 5volts.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes,,,It came off ????Is the nut missing?

Does it look like This...?
Vref is vehicle reference voltage, thats the 5 volts you got elsewhere

Re: New Pcm and cps and truck still wont start

It can't run without the solonoid on it , But I don't know what that would have to do with the WIF light..

BTW, how did you decide the PCM was bad?...

[/ QUOTE ] That is the problem, the large piece couldnt have gone far, it about has to be in the valley somewhere,, otherwise you need a new IPR.

BTW, the nut is a sheet metal nut. Good flashlight and a magnet should find it.

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

When I started to look things over I noticed the WIF didn't come on and WTS light took a really long time to go out when I tried to start it. So I put the code reader on it and it would not communicate with the PCM. Then I did some looking on here and ordered a stock PCM from dp-tuner. after install everything looked normal KOEO but it wouldn't fire.

I got the solinoid slid back on but I just hadn't found the nut yet.

Re: New Pcm and cps and truck still wont start

You can buy a IPR rebuild kit, they comes with a new nut. IF you can not find one PM me, I just rebuilt one of my IPR's. I have a nut I can throw in an envelope and mail to you to get you up and running(for free, however you will have to wait for "snail mail").

Keep Strokin'
