new vss, speedo and abs inop. Help!

Last summer, was camping, driving on bumpy roads, speedo quit, abs light came on. On the drive back home it started working again. Next day, failed. shut off and restarted, back to normal until now. Its been real cold out last 2 weeks and speedo and abs quit working again. Just changed vss on rear diff, still not working. removed ground on radiator support behind driver battery, sanded to bare metal, and put ground back on, still messed up. Wiring loom looks good from rear end to frame externally. What do I do now? Can my trans be damaged running it this way? Planning on trip over pass on Christmas, please help.

I don't think your tranny will be hurt. but the loss of your turn signals kind of points to an electrical problem on the hot side of the ABS/speedo/inst panel circuits.

Speedo

I had this problem when a squirrel chewed the wire that went to the diff for the speed sensor. Since you replaced that already and assuming that it is a good one I would look over the wiring again to make sure. Any little knick will let moisture in and finally, corrosion.
The other thing is that I have headlight, panel and gauge issues when it is really cold. It only happens when it is really cold. I have yet to find the answer to this.
I know this doesn't help much, but this has been my experience.

Maybe - in a roundabout way.

Anyway fuses for ABS are #14 (60A) under hood, and #15 and #15 (both 5A) under the dash. ABS light fuse is #19 (10A) under dash, but that one should be good if the ABS light is on.

ABS is connected to the GEM and instrument panel in various ways, including the brake fluid level switch (is that OK?), and the speedo signal.

The turn signal flasher circuit and the abs fuse #25 are both powered thru the same contact in the ignition switch (one of 4), but that circuit and the one that actually runs the truck are powered by the same fuse, so that might narrow it down to the ignition switch itself. That contact (hot in run) also powers the air bag circuits, heater controls, and trailer battery charge relay control circuit. Check to make sure those are powered with the key on (be careful of messing with air bag circuits though). The output terminal from the switch is "A4" (should be a grey/yellow wire)

Found it... I came across an article at AskaMechanic.com (free site), that saved me a bunch of money. It led me look the plugs in the back of the fuse box. The wire, (white w/ violet stripe, upper right when looking at face of plug), that feeds the abs module also splices off and feeds the turn signals, had backed out of the plug and was not making contact. I just pushed it back in, it locked in place, and put back together.
