This type of post usually sparks a heated discussion. *LOL*
It will range from what people can find the cheapest that still meets ratings to the highly expensive synthetic oil.
If you are not running extended oil drains...then a dino oil should work just fine. I run Rotella...but others run Delo...Wally World...Tractor Supply and a host of others with nary a problem. Find an oil you are comfortable with price wise that still meet oil specs for our trucks.
Filter wise...same issue. Some run very expensive filters...others run what they can find. Me...I am running Penzoil filters that I managed to scam from Checker Auto for 77 cents. Again...find a filter you are comfortable with price wise...and go with it.
And yes...15 quarts will do for your truck.

any objections to Quakerstate or Motorcraft oil and a Motorcraft filter? im not a big fan of Fram for some prior issues ive had with them..

Nope...none at all. Plenty of people here run Motorcraft oil and filter combos. Make sure the oil is up to spec...and you are good to go.

I use Motorcraft filters on my Ford's. I will NEVER use another brand.
The truck gets Rotella and the Cobra gets Mobil 1 synthetic.
BTW, 3 1/2 gallons in my truck puts it at 1/2 quart low. I have never added between oil changes. Doesn't use a drop . 540 miles a week.

Black w/Sport interior, some mods and a DP chip....
trucks and mustang get get motorcraft filters. camaro gets K&N
Trucks get motorcraft or mobil 1/quakerstate depending on where i get it and mustang/camaro get royal purple only, proven 5+ HP on a dyno just for the engine oil and 5 more for diff. and tranny

The Ford gets nothing but Motorcraft FL-1995 oil filters and Castrol Enduron S Synthetic blend I get get by the five gallon bucket from an oil distributor.
The Chevy gets Fram Extra Guard PH5 oil filter and Bay Oil.
The '03 Explorer gets Fram Tough Guard TG2 oil filter and any brand 5w-30 oil.

Any comment on a cheapo like me using wally world stuff like $20 for a 5 gallon bucket of diesel truck oil and fram filters?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not from me. Like I stated earlier...my Penzoil filters were 77 cents...and I have 4 Frams in the drawer that were 2 for $5. My Walmart doesn't have the SuperTech...so I run plain Rotella dino. Blackstone says that the engine is wearing fine with very good filtration.
I have a Fram on now...so next Blackstone will tell me how that one is doing.

Sure, how about, these: (Hey, you asked!)
Mar 04
"CHRIS: No problems showed up in the initial sample from your Power Stroke. All wear read at or below averages for this type of engine, which is a very good indication of normal wearing parts and careful operation. The universal averages show normal wear after almost 5,000 miles on the oil. Insolubles (oil oxidation and soot due to heat, use and blow-by) were low, showing good oil filtration. No fuel dilution or anti-freeze was found. At 30,000 total miles, this engine appears to be doing very well. Try 8,000 miles on the next oil. Everything should still look good. "
Jul 04
"CHRIS: Very little has changed since the last sample from your Power Stroke. All wear continues to read was well within the average range for this type of engine, which, along with the steady wear trend, is a very good indication of normal wearing parts and careful operation. The oil was normal in viscosity and free of any fuel dilution or anti-freeze. We found nothing from our test data that would suggest any kind of mechanical problem at 35,000 miles (56,990 KM). If all engines looked this good, our job would be easy."
Dec 04
"CHRIS: This may be the best wearing Power Stroke we've seen all month. You have increased the number of kilometers you put on the oil, and your engine doesn't seem to care. Wear is tracking flat, which is the best argument we know of for having normal mechanical parts inside. Air filtration (silicon at 10 ppm) looks normal. Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use, and blow-by) were low at 0.4%, showing good oil filtration and complete combustion. This 15W/40 engine oil had no moisture, antifreeze, or water in it. No problems found at 65,000 total km. Nice engine."
The above summaries from Blackstone Labs were from using Walmart oil (which is C-I rated), and using Fram or Supertech filters. The intervals were at 5-6000 miles and as you can see they recommended going to 8k miles!
Yeah, I'm pretty happy with Wallyworld oil (as well as Fram & Supertech filters)
Like the others - Truck gets Motorcraft filter and Rotella
Mustang Mach gets Mobil 1 Oil and Filter

That's good to hear Chris, I am just sending away for my first Blackstone test because my oil level did not go down from full mark between last 2 changes. Expecting either very good engine or fuel dilution.
BTW, I have 2 10" subs but don't know where to put them, where and how is your sub installed?
