When I started my truck yesterday the oil temperature idiot light stayed on for about 2-3 seconds once the truck was started. I dont remember it staying on that long in the past....Am I crazy and it always did? I "thought" it would shut off almost immediately upon cranking the engine.
It is a red light in the upper left of instrument panel/guages.

You mean the oil "pressure" light?
I never start out until the light has gone out. Just to make sure the oil is flowing good before putting a load on it. Mine stays on for 2-3 seconds after startup.

Is it an oil pressure light or an oil temperature light?
It is to the left of the oil pressure gauge. It is a red light. It is a little oil can/spigot and what appears to be a thermometer. i assumed this was oil temperature. I dont see the need for an oil pressure idiot light, right next to the oil pressure gauge (which I believe is really an idiot light in the form of a gauge)?
Catch & Release you said it is an oil pressure light and you wait for it to go out to ensure good oil flow? Do these trucks have an electric oil pump? I don't think so. How is there ANY oil pressure before the engine is turning?

ignition is in the ON position and
the:
• engine coolant temperature is
very high
• engine oil pressure is low
• engine is off
The light serves as a notice that a system needs your attention and to
check the engine coolant temperature gauge and the engine oil pressure
gauge.

Yup, that's the one. So I guess Ford did see it fit to put an idiot light next to the idiot gauge. I assumed those two icons were to be read together. So it is normal for that light to illuminte when the key is on, but how long does it stay on once the engine is ON. I dont remember it staying on at all. yesterday I noted it for about 2-3 seconds? It could be I never noticed it before, or it could be it is staying on for a longer period of time. The coolant temp is NOT high when i am starting, and the oil pressure "gauge" seems to rise upon starting the vehicle, just as it always had in the past.

Don't know, my '02 doesn't have the "double idiot" option . I had to pull a '99 Owners Manual to see what you were talking about. I suppose if you watch it for a few starts you will know if it's normal. I have had some odd things happen with lights on the dash from time to time, and of course they never repeat......trons getting lost I suppose.

If you watch both the gauge and the light, you'll see that the light goes out pretty much right after the oil idiot guage comes all the way up. Usually takes about 2-3 seconds as you say.
