Is it okay to have a rusted Turbo?

I am about to buy this 2001 F250 XLT with a 7.3L Turbo Diesel. Besides the rust, I am wondering what the oil like residue around the turbo plumbing.

Any help would be appreciated. I am looking to buy this for my Farm to haul my cattle (8) and other things like implements when needed.

Please see the picture attached for more details.

The oil residue is a result of Ford's bad boots...no biggie dieselsite.com has replacements that work great. The rusty exhaust housing is not a big deal. I would pull the intake tube to the turbo and make sure the intake is clean...no dust.

NewToDiesels,
Pilots got you on the right track. And remember if you are put out with a number of these parts, you can always find a good deal on an aftermarket turbos and turbo parts - turbo components, fittings, pipes, etc -which if supplemented with the right software and hardwares, can give you alot of benefits to their use, especially hauling cattle around. If the truck appears to be in good working order and the price is right, I would definately consider going through with the buy. I know that my 7.3L was my favorite truck i've owned, they are sturdy, reliable and definately fun to tinker with. good luck wiht everything

I was looking at the 6.0L at first since I thought the 7.3L was a bit too big for my farm. My farm is only 15 acres with 8 cows. However, the more I read the more I realized I would take the bigger engine since the reliability is so high.

Actually the boots have nothing to do with the oil residue which comes from the Crank Case Vent. (runs from the drivers valve cover to the turbo inlet tube)
