Question opti-lube XPD?

anybody using this additive? i think we all saw it did well on that wear test that has been going around;

http://www.johnfjensen.com/Diesel_fu...itive_test.pdf

just looking for some folks who have used it and found it quieted down their motor and didn't do anything catastrophic

not really, don't use additives, but it is good to know and save the webpage.

Thanks for sharing!

I use the Opti-Lube Summer stuff just for added lubrication. Costs about $50/gal but will last for 15k-30k miles depending on the ratio I use. Hopefully cheap insurance for lubrication........provided those lubrication tests are accurate. If not........oh well, I'm out $50.

I've been using a half ounce per gallon of Walmart 2-cycle ashless.

It has quieted the old 1996 7.3.

It did well in the famous test.

Ten bucks per gallon.

Makes me feel good.

Just saw this thread and thought I would share another website that has Opti-lube products, looks like they are having a sale on the summer blend quarts.

Grace Distributing: Opti-Lube

I use the summer blend because it is cheaper and a better lubricator than the wally world stuff, I also use the Oil Fortifier and have noticed a lot quieter and smoother running engine.

I plan to start using it, I already have several gallons in my shop. First I need to use up my Stanadyne Performance Formula, I am thinking about using both the Stanadyne & the Opti Lube XPD both, just to use up the Stanadyne.

Did you notice on the test that Bio was at the top of the list for lubricity, and what a tiny percent it took? I have a Safeway near the house that sells B-20, which I could use with the Stanadyne.

My last tank was mixed with bio for about a 5% total, plus the additive Ford sells at the parts counter. My engine got SUPER quiet, people have even commented on it.

Haven't done any MPG tests yet.

I love Bio, even in the small 5% amount, it feels like the mileage is better, the engine runs nice and smooth and is waaaaay quieter. I make small batches, time to go collect more WVO as I ran out and missing it! It is night and day difference sound and power wise when you have to fill up with #2, even dumping your oil change into the tank helps dramatically power and sound wise. Just my observation with the truck.

The only Bio I have ever run is made & refined commercially with soybean oil. I would be hesitant to run WVO and WMO in my engine with 2K for injectors. Maybe in my old Mercedes 300, but not in my baby!

I know for a fact that BD has way fewer BTU's the Diesel so the engine puts out less HP therefore it stands to reason that mileage is also reduced.

Dumping filthy gritty carbon laden oil into a fuel system I painstakingly try to keep clean using the occassional tank of BD or Seafoam is one thing I am not going to do.

Anything scientific besides SOTP? Even Bio producers will tell you that you will lose mileage with their stuff because it has less BTU.

Bosch suggested that the difference between D2 and what the manufacturers want MIGHT lower your lifespan by maybe 10%. Is it worth it for me to go calculate the ratios, buy the stuff and carry a jug around? I don't think so.

Well I said it "feels" like mileage is better, I didnt say it was in fact better.

I dont run WVO even in small increments. I havent had a problem running my oil change oil and filling up my tank afterwards.

In fact my injectors love the stuff, biodiesel and WMO(from my own truck) I dont hear my injectors clanking around running either. When I dont have either around...I run 2 stroke ashless. All work great!

I have 2 fuel filters FYI, do as you will,I could care less what you guys do or tell me not to do, Im just stating what I do, maybe I will feel differently with 2grand in injectors but then again probably not because I would just get a kit from DIY.

Guess I don't know how to feel the mileage is better. I know how to compute and that tells me if the mileage is better. Still, like I said, even the bio peddlers will admit it has less BTU and therefore less power and mileage as compared to D2 so I don't know how that can be more than a placebo effect.

Bio changes the combustion noise. I am curious as to how you can sit in the truck and hear the injector noise above the engine noise without sophisticated sound filters. Bio has a difference cetane and that does affect the combustion. When I had the regulated return, the engine became quieter. What changed besides the ignition noise from #8 getting the fuel it should have?
