Pan Sylicone leaking again

Took the truck to the dealer today with an oil leak in the front of the engine. Now this is the third time the truck has leaked after another dealer fixed the dip stick problem. Dealer charged $80.00 to tell me that I had a leak thru the silicone at the pan and wanted $1,500 to fix it. The truck was last fixed (?) on 21 Jul 09 at a different dealer. He said no warranty on the silicone or the workmanship of the other dealer. How about that - Ford stands behind their product up to a point. Any options besides welding the pan to the block? I'll call the other dealer tomorrow to see what he can do for me, but I don't expect much. As noted in my sig. we are full-time RVers and spend 6 to 8 months on the road each year.

well you could do what a stealership did to me! i call it the gresham smear. took the truck in for a leaking oil pan. they told me that they pulled the engine and resealed the oil pan. paid the $ and went on my way. come to find out they only smeared rtv over the edge of the oil pan and the engine block. this worked for a little while. took it back! threw a fit! this time they did pull the engine and resealed it, then they put hose clamps that were 10 times to big. went on my way again, blew a radator hose off. great work the stealerships do, so what im saying is if they do pull the engine and do the work i would highly recomend that you clime all over the truck to make sure they really did pull the engine and put it back together correctly.

The correct way to fix leaking pan sealant is to pull the engine. $1500 is a good price compared to what some have paid. Any other method will be sub-standard and leave you wondering when it will leak again.

Just an FYI if a different dealer did the pan leak back in July and it wasn't under warranty then "FORD" did not do it but Joe Blow Ford did the work. If you want any warranty you would need to go back to Joe Blow Ford to have it done and not any other dealer.

Bugman - you are right to a point. The first dealer charged me to pull the motor and fix the dip stick leak. I don't think the second dealer was paid by Ford but did the work at no charge(11 months, 21 days). The third dealer was not paid by Ford and changed the pan at no cost to me (12 days). Now the fourth dealer will not touch the truck without being paid to fix the leak (3 months, 19 days). I called the third dealer and the Shop Foreman said to bring the truck back and he will call a Ford Rep to examine the motor to see why it won't seal. I'll only have to drive 689 miles and spend some time in a motel while waiting for the truck. So now I'm weighing the cost of having it fixed here in Mesa, AZ or spend the time and money taking it back to dealer number three. I guess the one year parts and labor guarantee is not transferable from dealer to dealer.
