2001 Excursion 7.3 with Banks chip, intake, exhaust and wastegate.
I do a lot of towing enclosed trailers with race cars in them and that is about what 90% of the trucks mileage are spent doing. Towing last year the transmission let go. Buddy is a Jasper dealer and gave what is supposed to be an upgrade 4r100 through them for cost, a little over $2000 along with a 3 year, 100k warranty. Tranny was shifting hard into third under a hard load which I didn't like so I took it back to him and he called Jasper and they sent out another transmission. Put the new trans in and it's still shifting hard, Jasper said it must be something going on with the ECU causing the hard shift and to have the dealer reflash it. He sent to the dealer to have it reflashed and they tried to reflash it (with the chip in it) and said it wouldn't take it and now the truck won't even start and they said it needs an ECU.
Apparently they say my truck has some uncommon ECU in it so there are no used ones to be found anywhere.
Are the more common 2001 7.3 ECU's compatible or do I have to go back with the same part number? Is my ECU junk because they tried to flash it with the chip in? Is the chip now junk?
The part number on my ecu is 1U7Z12A650FSA
Thanks for any information, input or advice you guys can offer!
Have you tried the PCM without the chip? Did they attempt to reflash without the chip?

They said they have, after trying to flash it with the chip first though. So I'm wondering if them trying to flash it with the chip could have damaged the PCM and/or the chip?
Why would you give it to the dealer with a chip/programmer installed knowing they were going to reflash your PCM program.
Why would the stupid dealer even attempt to reflash it knowing there a chip on it.
I would just search/buy another PCM that matchs yours, off car-part.com, and throw it in then reinstall your chip and hope that Ford didn't mess IT up.
If you can't find the exact PCM, part # wise, there's probably one that will work perfectly just have to find someone who knows that info. My 99 originally had a XLE8 PCM and I replaced it with a PMT1 PCM from a 2001, runs fine if not better.

That's the thing. I didn't know the PCM was getting reflashed. I didn't even know my truck was at the dealership until I got the phone call saying my PCM is fried. I had a parts/labor warranty through the place I bought the trans from. I installed in the first time and took it to them when I wasn't happy with the way it was shifting. They told me they were gonna put another transmission in it. Didn't hear from them again until they called me saying it needs a new PCM.
Apparently they put a new trans in it and it was still shifting hard into third so they sent it to the dealer for a reflash and I didn't find out until after the fact or I would have said something about the chip.
What would like to find some information about PCM crossover compatibility but so far have had no luck. Apparently mine is some really uncommon one and every place I have called has said they don't show a used one in the country. There are plenty of the other 2001 7.3 Excursion PCM's available used/ but don't know if any of them will work in my truck as they are all different model number PCM's. Hoping to not have to $1000 dollars on a new one.

Got ya. Did the trans guy/shop know you were running a Banks chip ?
Did you pull the chip out after the first Jasper trans was put in to see if the hard shift issue disappeared ?
As far as PCM swap compatability, your PCM has the brains for the PATS and GPCM, so the Excursions are of a different version, Superduty PCM's have lot of swap info out there. There is a few companies out there called that sell and repair/refurbish them, autoecms and autocomputerexchange but I wouldn't pay $1000 for a new one. There are site sponsors that sell new parts with a great discount, if you have to go the new route.
