Re: rear end chatter while turning left or right

Sounds like you need a little more.

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Re: rear end chatter while turning left or right

You may need more friction modifier. I put Amsoil in mine and it was said not to need it. After about 10K miles the shudder appeared going left or right. Needed to add friction modifier.

Re: rear end chatter while turning left or right

Not to be a hole in the bucket, but the same thing happened to my parent's '03 F-250, and it turned out the clutch pack in the rear was destroyed. They only had just over 50K miles on it when it happened. Same symptoms..... just fine in a straight line, but shudders when cornering. Sad thing is the symptoms have popped back up again recently.

Re: rear end chatter while turning left or right

How many ounces were in the tube of friction modifier? I had to use a little more than one bottle in mine when I switched to Amsoil. I think I ended up with 6 ounces.

Re: rear end chatter while turning left or right

I am currently going through the same problem. My advice at this point is have fresh fluid and 8 ounces of modifier, as recommended by ford. Then do some figure 8 turns and give it some miles and see if it stops. If not, then you are in my boat- scheduling a new LSD install. I have chosen the detroit truetrac and will hopefully have it installed next week. I chose the truetrac because it is gear driven and no clutches to wear out again.

1200-1300 is a rip call your local gear diff shop and see what he can do for you i bet you could get a new Eaton at your local shop installed for 700 or less. I will look around and see what I can find on the net and post back.

Re: rear end chatter while turning left or right

The lowest price that I could get for the truetrac with bearings and shims was $595. I am purchasing mine through the gear shop that I am having the work done, they are charging basically the same. The average install price that I have run into in my area is $425. The eaton posi is basically the same cost.
The place that I chose is supposed to be very reputable, but is 3 hours from home. THe install price is much cheaper than in my area though.
