Recalled CPS Lose fuel mileage?

I brought my truck in for the CPS recall seems to get 1 to 2 less mpg. Is this possible?

I've heard the same thing from a friend and haven't taken mine in yet. I was going to ask the same question here if there was any truth to it.

It is possible to get differing MPG's with different CPS's. I took my truck in for the recall soon after I bought it, so I didn't have any decent established numbers for before. However, after Ford put in the gray CPS I bought an IH black CPS and tried it out. It made the truck much smoother and quieter, but MPG's dropped from 15.5 at the time to 13.2 on winter fuel. I have switched back and forth a few times now since, and every time the MPG's are 2-2.5mpg less with the black CPS. Since I've been running summer fuel now, the truck has been getting 18.5 in town with the gray CPS and 16.1 with the black one. I'll suffer with a little more diesel sound for the extra MPG's.

Same

Took mine in for the CPS mid winter and lost 1-2mpg also. But it is worth going in for the recall because it stinks to be hauling down I-70 with a goose neck full of hay and then you truck just shuts off...NOT COOL!

Get the fix, its not worth 1-2mpg's when you think about possibly loosing power at any random point, no motor=no power brakes or steering. Thank god it happened to me in a straight line.

So the NEW Ford gray is lowering the mpg? Sounds like I should stop by the IH and get a black one if they have one.
Might get over the 20mpg mark with the van, as I am running the gray and around 18-19 highway and 16-17 city. (summer)

FWIW, I had the recall CPS installed last fall. On our trip, to/from AZ, I gained ½mpg, not much, but better than nothing.

No, mine actually is better with the Ford gray CPS, and worse with the IH black CPS.

Yep, the gray one is the latest, and greatest. My truck runs better with the black cps.

It'd be interesting if someone set up a survey question to tabulate the results of getting the recall done and mileage along with year/model of the truck involved. Might give us a better idea of why some get better and some get worse mileage.

I would, but don't know how.

There have been quite a few guys post that they were having issues with the new Ford gray replacement CPS.......specifically, their trucks were failing the cylinder contribution test for #3 and #8. They put in the black CPS, and all was fine. I would assume that there would be a significant drop in power if #3 and #8 were failing. In mine, power seems the same......just runs smoother and quieter with the black CPS. But for an extra 2-2.5mpg, I'll go with the gray CPS, and just hope that #3 and #8 run fine.
