Looks like you caught it in time. That kind of wear isn't too bad. How is the side thrust & end play? If it's still tight you are ok.

Your probably fine, unless you live on a gravel road and put many miles on it. The motor is MOST likely ok. Burning a bit of oil is totally normal. In fact my early 99 hated having 15qts in it, it ALWAYS went to about 13.5 or 14qts and stayed there. I started putting in only 14 each change and it never used any between changes again.
Maybe your truck is like that. I had a dealer tell me that was normal for some trucks.
Turbo looks fine too, drive it that way, keep an eye on it and enjoy your truck!

I live on a 1/2 mile dirt road, we own a campground so I'm always passing someone coming in or out in the summer... figures

I remember hearing that it was best to run a diesel engine a quart low, that if you filled it to full, most engines would just burn it off. I heard that a long time ago from an old timer, so I don't know how it applies to our engines, or even if it was ever true.

I know my old 6.9 went through a lot of oil, and the first quart seemed to go the fastest, then I started keeping it a quart low.

On my 7.3, I fill it to about 1/4" below the full mark when I change it. It seems to use about a quart every 3K or so, at 135K. My wife's Mercedes 300 diesel doesn't use a drop, at 150K, even when topped off to the full mark.

I run an AFE stage 2 kit on my truck, and have for about 45K miles. Not sure if it is a K&N, but it is definitely similiar. I clean my filter once a year and never see any dirt/dust in my intake tract. It is important to reoil those filters correctly. Maybe your not using enough oil. I would also recomend buying a prefilter for it. That would probably cure your problems.

I ripped the worthless POS off and put my AIS back on, I have cleaned these scence I was 12 (had them on my atvs) I had a 400ex start using oil cause of these filter that should of been reason enought to not put them on my $30,000 truck.....But I'm dumb I guess. I always cleaned it inside out plenty of cleaner, let it air dry, oiled the hell out of it. There junk, surgical gauze is not a good enought element to keep dirt out IMO

K&N are pure crap and as you see should be never used on a turbo engine..well any engine IMO.

I'd do a oil analysis to see how the motor is doing

Funny that an oil analysis is mentioned. I just had mine tested after 6500 miles of use. I use Blackstone Laboratories, and have for years. They check for around 30 different materials in the oil. They can tell how your engine is wearing by what metals they find in the oil. They also check for fuel and antifreeze in the oil. My test came back with excellent results. Lower than average contaminants in the oil. I als had a test done to see how much additives were left in the oil that fight acid and corrosion. Blackstone said I had a lot of life left and my oil was clean. They recomended that I try waiting 8000 miles for my next oil change and get it retested.

Based on this I would double check your cleaning/oiling method. Also get a prefilter like I mentioned. I do not run a prefilter on mine, but you may be in a dustier area than me.

BTW, this test consisted of Motorcraft 15w40 with 1 quart of Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer added. Which is a debate in anothe thread on this forum.
