Removing Upper Steering Column Shroud 99 F-250

My OD light also works intermittently because of a broken wire off shift lever. I cant get the upper shroud off because the ignition or key cylinder holds it from being removed. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you just have to pull the shroud out over the key assembly to get the shroud off. I did mine 5 years ago, so I don't 100% remember if that's what I did or whether I pulled the key switch assembly out before I removed the shroud.

Re: Removing Upper Steering Column Shroud 99 F-250

The switch is significantly larger on the outside than the hole in the shroud on mine. I can't figure out how to remove the key switch assy.

CLICK HERE for pic of key switch removal pin/hole

The lower hole is where you need to insert a straightened paper clip to release the lock cylinder.

Re: Removing Upper Steering Column Shroud 99 F-250

Turn the key to the run position. If the lower cover is still in place there is a hole side of one of the mounting screws under the lock cylinder. Take a small screw driver or ice pick and push it up into the hole. There is a button on the lock cylinder that must be pushed to release the cylinder. Once the button is pushed just pull the cylinder out. If the bottom cover is off you should be able to see the button under the ignition lock cylinder.

Re: Removing Upper Steering Column Shroud 99 F-250

Thanks guys. I saw the button but didn't realize the key had to be in the run position for it to work. I'll get to it tomorrow morning.
