Rough idle, white smoke fixes itself???

Ok, after searching & searching on here & finding a bunch of info, I need to post this. My truck has been running a little rough for the past 2 weeks or so. Not bad, but not good, it was running a tad rough (you guys know what I mean, a few less RPM's make a completely different sound on these trucks) when it was colder, but by the time it warmed up, it was fine. I thought it may be the fuel filter, nope, not that. So as I'm trying to figure this out, it gets worse within the past couple of days. Still mainly when it's cold, but now acting up when it gets warmer. Threw a bottle of Lucas in the tank & let it run through for about an hour tromping on it for a lil' bit going down the road. Ran great. Till yesterday, acted very dumb, missed like hell, smoked & shut off. Almost like it ran out of fuel, started it up and got it running ok, but didn't drive it. Started it this morning, went to go from my lower driveway to my upper driveway & it ran really rough, smoked & shut off in the middle of the road. I got it started back up, pulled it in the d/w & shut it down. I checked the headers for heat (cause if the wire harness came undone, one side shouldn't have heat if it knocked the whole bank out), both were warm. I started it back up & it did that whum-whum-whum crap that they do when it's cold outside. Got it idling decent, but still not right. So I changed the oil, Rotella 15-40. Started after oil change, missed for about a minute & cleared itself up. I let it idle for about 20 minutes & took it down the road. Acted fine, no RPM drops. Pulled it back in the driveway & shut it down It still isn't 100%, but I'd say a clean 99%. Any ideas on what it may be? I'm thinking an injector, I checked the fuel bowl after it shut off & it was full to the top. I just don't know.....I love these things when they work

Chris

How much oil did you drain out? I've heard about similar symptoms if you are low on oil.

If it stalls again, you might check the fuel filter bowl before you try and crank it again. Maybe you've got a weak or intermittent pump that's not keeping up with demand.
