Runs. At times no acceleration

Hello, I'm new to the forum but not new to big fords. I had a 94 4Dr long bed 4x4. sold it at 199k. 97 4dr long bed stroker 4x4.6" lift.sold at 259k.
I now have a 00 super duty 4dr long bed stroker 4x4 with 4" lift, super chip Gold chip. Factory Over sized turbo, 5" exhaust.
Any way. Most problems Ive been able to figure out and fix but I have a new one that has me stumped.
We just returned from Oregon where we spent a week of running up and down the coast. The truck preformed beautifully. After we came back every once in a while the check engine light comes on and there is no response out of the throttle. I shift in to neutral and there is full throttle response. Shift it back into gear and I'm good to go for a while. It is a intermediate issue but it is driving me nuts. Even with the check engine light on it it isn't flipping codes.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome to TheDieselStop

Most likely, you aren't using a PSD capable scan tool to check for codes. If your Check Engine Light comes on there WILL be a code stored.

Your problem could be a number of things, but getting a scan with a proper tool will be the best way to track it down.

Thank you. Unfortunatly no one I spoke to today knew what that was. I brought a OBD 2 skanner home and once again there are no codes. Even when the "check engine light" was on it wouldnt show anything. The dealer is quite a ways away and Im afraid Ill have to tow it if I cant get this figured out.

The PSD is not OBD 2 compliant. It uses an extended set of diagnostic codes which a generic OBD2 scan tool won't pick up. Most any diesel shop should have a scan tool that will work. Snap-on and others make them. Ask if they can do an Injector Buzz Test or Cylinder Contribution test with their scan tool. If so, it will read the codes.

Thanks, It was a Snap On that wouldnt read it.
I took it to the dealer and they decided it was the tps with out checking codes. Price $653.00.

$315.00 for the part and the rest in labor and shop supplies. I let them know that I had replaced it 8 months ago and I only paid $89.00 for the part (pedal assembly) from a different dealer and pointed out the fact that it only takes 10 minutes to change.

Long Story short the service writer did not stop the replacement of the part as I had instructed and I had to get the general manager to release the truck to me the next day(Saturday).
I picked up the part from a different dealer on monday morning for $115.00. (Pays to know someone) and changed in under 10 minutes. (love the battery impact gun)

I havent taken the defective one apart yet. Does any one know of a "rebuild" kit for the tps. Im amazed you cant just replace it by itself.

Good Job
I'm amazed that they wanted to stick it to you that bad. If they had messed around with diagnosis, that would have been one thing, but to just do a part swap and charge that kind of money is just criminal, IMO. I thought the Alaska Gouge only existed in Alaska, but obviously, I'm wrong.

Dorman makes the potentiometer for the TPS, here but I don't think the IVS is available from them. It's a standard microswitch, so you might be able to find a part # on it and get one from an electronics shop.

Thanks for the info.

The dealer knew they were in the wrong. I tried to pay them for the time the tech spent on it.(I like these guys and didnt want to screw him) but they wouldnt take it. The general manager said he would look into The priceing (Ya Right) and sent me on my way.
