Should I be worried.. Engine got hot

So I lost my water pump and tensioner going down the freeway this weekend traveling home from a trip. When I heard a noise from under the hood going down the freeway I pulled over. The belt was almost gone and water gasket on the pump had given out. Since I had my 3 kids, wife, and two dogs in the truck and we were about 1000 mile from home. I put the spare belt on and filled the radator and moved the truck about three miles. Then filled it again and moved it another 5 miles to the parts store were I replace the pump in the parking lot of an autozone.

Should I be worried about any other damage that might of been caused by a hot engine. I'm not sure how hot the engine got sine the temp gauage only spiked once. After the repair we drove 1000 miles hot with out a problem.

If you don't see any effects of overheating right now, it'll be fine. I've run my truck for a couple of miles without the belt on while trying to track down a noise/vibration problem. It didn't even make the temp gauge budge in that distance.

I remember once on an old chevy when I was a kid, the thermostat got stuck shut and it started banging and bucking. My dad pulled over and let it cool off, then pulled the thermostat out and tossed it away. That car lasted a good long time after that, even being passed down to a couple of us kids.
