Smokin? - Diesel Forum

Hello I am still new to the world of diesels. I have an 03 Excursion with the 7.3l psd. The other day I started her up and took off. I got about 3 blocks when i had to stop at a traffic light. I looked behind me and saw a bunch of white smoke. The temp outside was about 80-85 degree, and the enige was cold. When i took off I got a lot more smoke. It eventually went away but I never got that in the 02 that I totalled in a wreck. The 02 had 95k on my 03 only has 45k.

What is normal for smoke? The engine is stock. Well, from all I know it is. I get a little smoke when I mash the go pedal onthe highway, but I thought that was normal. Is it?

Please help.

[/ QUOTE ]thats your first mistake right there. you never start up a diesel and take off. even in warm weather you need to idle it a minute or so before taking off.
