Question Starting Problems

This weekend i had some starting problems with my 01 f350.Truck would turn over but not start, waited a few minutes then it would start.I checked the battery connections and found that both neg terminals were a little loose so i cleaned and re tightened them.I also checked the batteries and both checked good.
Well after a little reading here on the forum i read that you need to see around 500 rpm on the tach while starting.I never payed any attention to it before(new to diesel)so i noticed that when the truck didnt want to start i would see round 500 rpm on the tach and 0 when it did start.I do have the new cps and i checked the #30 fuse ad it was ok.The truck has done ok since i have driven it a while with the battry terminals tightened. Is there anything else i need to check?

I don't think it takes 500 rpm to start, I think you were reading 500 psi fron the HPOP to the injectors to allow the PCM to tell the injectors to fire?

How cold was it where you're at? It could be the Glow Plug relay starting to go bad, not heating up the glow plugs. Did you leave the key on, but not try to start, until the WAIT TO START light went out? In really cold climates, you may have to do this a couple of times to get the glow plugs hot enough to get the engine going.

I read a lot of post so i maybe wrong!I did notice when the engine turned over but didn't start the rpm showed around 500,but when it does start it stays at zero.

It was 65 deg here when i had the problem so i can rule out cold weather.since i tightened the battery posts it has been starting fine so i hope that was the culprit.
