Starting problems, one time it will.... one time it wont

Here's the problem, 2000 / F250 powerstroke, when you turn on the key you start to hear a clicking noise, thats when we know it wont start, both bat.. are ok, have headlights, turn signals, flashers, everything.....also when it wont start everything seems dim while the key is on.
If the clicking isnt there then it will start, not sure where to start looking for the problem, this has happened about 6 to 7 times now and keeps getting worst, I played with the turn signals once and turned the key on then it started, I messed with the head light switch and it started, so if any one else has had this problem I would like to hear how you fixed it or any ideas that may help. Otherwise I get to take it in to someone that will take my arm and leg to fix it...

I would start by checking and/or cleaning all battery cables, connections and grounds on the block. Some have experienced that clicking noise when there batteries were weak.

I would get your batteries load tested. I had a starting problem last week, headlights were good, the engine cranked good, but no start. The batteries where just low enough that the engine wouldn't turn over. I would also check the GPR, I know at the top of the forums there is a thread about starting issues and someone explains how to check the GPR. I think there is also a starter relay on the passanger side of the engine compartment, you might want to check that also.

Batteries only couple years old, will check batteries and all connections this evening and let you know what I come up with.
Thanks for your help also.

Re: Starting problems, one time it will.... one time it wont

ok, batteries and all connections are ok, got truck home, had problems starting to put on the trailer today, had to jump start it, we turned it off and tried to restart the truck, it started..... turned it off and tried it again, wouldn't start.
Got it home wont start, put battery charger on it with engine start, just to get it to start, fired right over, pulled it off trailer, turned off and restarted it, no problem, did this several times without any problems.....(15-20) times
the clicking sound I discussed earlier is from the wife, what I found is that when it happened to me (once) the wipers came on when I turned on the ignition switch and the wipers werent even on, the engine wouldn't turn over, I am leaning towards a short somewhere...
I do know that when we would turn the key on to the start position and if we are going to have a problem everything is dim, turn the key off and everything goes back to the way it should be, funny part about this is that its not an everyday thing, once here and there, but now its happening more often.... (I would say its the 6th time) would you think its the ignition switch? all questions and ideas are appreacated....
thanks..
