There's not a thing wrong with your truck. At 2500rpm the fan will automaticly come on. To prove this is what your hearing, drop your rpm's too 2250rpm or so and you will here the fan kick off. Increase rpm to 2500rpm and the fan will kick back on.

Um, in a word, No. But thank you for playing. Johnny, tell him about his lovely parting gifts!
The fan drive engages when the bimetal thermostat on its front sees around 185F air temp behind the heat exchangers. It disengages somewhere below that (it's called hysteresis, and it's not only supposed to do that, you wouldn't like it much if it didn't and cycled on and off rapidly).
Now, as for why you think it comes on at 2500 rpm, that's because it's not terribly audible below about 2000 engine rpm, and it's certainly very audible by 2500 engine rpm. I can hear mine from about 1500 engine rpm on, but that's because I do this sort of thing for a living and I'm listening for it.
First time it engaged with my wife in the truck, we were pulling the race trailer up a pretty good grade on the PA Turnpike and this "whooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" noise started up. I just kept driving along, no big deal, but she was slightly freaked:
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?!?!?!"
"It's the fan."
"Is it supposed to do that?!?!"
"Yep. I'd be worried if it didn't."
"It's kinda loud."
"Yep. Spin a 23-1/4" fan with a 3" pitch that fast, it'll move a lot of air and make a lot of noise. It'll shut off in a minute or two, but it'll probably come back in on the next hill." (It did both.)

There is no "nice" way to arrest a potentially dangerous, combative suspect. The police are our bodyguards...our hired guns. We pay them to do the dirty work of protecting us; the things we're too afraid, to unskilled or too civilized to do ourselves. We expect them to keep the bad guys out of our businesses, our cars and houses and out of our face. We want them to "take care of the problem."

If you install before I do, I would love to hear your results. I am set to recieve mine by Friday and will have mine installed by Monday. I am pulling a trailer into the Sierra's on Wed. next week and I will know if it fixed the problem. I will definetly post the results, if not send you a PM. I just had kit 2C3Z-8620-AA installed on my 2002 and the problem I was having with the clutch/belt chirping and engine fan oscillating on and off repeatedly is CURED!!!
I would only have this problem when pulling hills with a trailer attached, and even then only if the truck downshifted into 3rd,2nd, etc. I went to the dealership and had it replaced...pulled the same hill where this used to happen all the time and no more strange noises.
The fan locks up after a few minutes up the hill and then stays locked until the top of the hill. Its awesome to have this working correctly again.
