Stuck In Denver Need Mechanic

Hello all,
Here I was driving from Grand Junction Co to Denver Co, enjoying my new DP tuner, getting around 21 MPG and playing with the engine brake tune that Jody did for me and coming down the final pass to head into Denver my truck started running really bad. After doing a lot of searches this afternoon I've narrowed it down to the dreaded harness under the valve covers.
Now, since I'm here for work and I'm not at my house I have no tools. Does ANYONE know of a good diesel mechanic in the area, Westminster perferably by the Broomfield airport (Rocky Mountain Regional), that I can take the truck to so I don't have to go to the dealership? I'm here until Friday.
Many beers and thanks will be offered in gratitude if I can get my truck fixed.
Thanks,
Sean

Check here Help Network - Colorado

No one actually in Denver, but one of these guys may be able to steer you in the right direction.

Good luck

Rockin' S Performance

Not in Westy or Broomfield but your only next choice would be ATS and you don't want to go there..

Or if you have TIME and the inclination, go to sears, buy one of those 140 pc tool sets in the black brief case type package. Carry it with you, and fix it yourself. (If it's the drivers side, it is the easiest to get off, passenger side is only a little bit harder) Just a thought, I know your there on business, may not have any work clothes, a place to do it, ect...

I don't have work clothes but might have to do it myself anyway. I've been calling around and everyone is booked though next week, I need to be home on Friday night.

OK< If I do this myself is the connector pretty easy to repair? Can I just use some zip ties and butterfly it to stay together?

Tom S has AE, and maybe Pocket too, might just get ahold of either of them to see if they can scan your truck for you and see if they can narrow down your problem so you aren't parts chasing.

You can try calling Travis in my signature, he is here in Colorado Springs but I know he is in Denver sometimes too.

Ive changed turbos. driveshafts, and even rocker arms on the side of the road-go to an international dealer (the big trucks) and order the parts for a t444e. There are TONS of them around-more popular than ford dealers, and half the price! A simple tool kit from walmart, sears, advance auto, etc will do it! If you can make it to an advance auto, id do it there (with permission) as any tools you need are only a few steps away! good luck, wish I was in the area, Id come by and help!

Thanks guys. I've received a couple PM's and good info. I'm off to Home Depot for the socket set and have some connector repair stuff here at the airport just in case. I'll let you know how it goes.

Went to Walmart and bought a nice stanley socket set. Got to the hotel and parked in the back lot to start work. I just took my time and started taking things apart and was really relieved to see the connector pulled apart when I got the valve cover off. I played with it a little and couldn't really put the zip ties on it like I thought I could. I ended up pushing it together and using two small dots of super glue on each end of the connector. I went to dinner, let it dry and checked it. It seems to be holding just fine. Since it got dark I will put it back together first thing in the morning. There's got to be a better way to fix this. What a poor design on this connector. I install avionics on airplanes and know what a connector needs to look like... Is it worth installing new wiring harnesses for this??

the new harnesses are revised to avoid this-however, I believe you can stick something in the spring section of the connector (the tab you push to release it) and itll hold tension so it can't come out. It is worth changing the undervalvecover harnesses and the gaskets-when the harnesses arc the connection tends to get weak (the pins burn and corrode) Its not worth the hassle to avoid spending the money on the proper repair-who knows when youll need to pull it apart again. glad you're going to get home!
