Synthetic tranny fluid types (specific)?

With all the different synthetic tranny fluid types out there...I was wondering if someone could give me the specific type(s), for both Amsoil and Mobile 1, necessary for switching out both PSD's (see sig).

Thanks, all. Your help is always appreciated.

Mobil 1 makes only one ATF as far as I know, and it's a good one. Meets MERCON requirements without also meeting MERCON V requirements. That's the one I use. $4.99 per quart at AutoZone.

If you insist on paying more, then AMSOIL makes three kinds of ATF, but only one is good for your ZF6 tranny. Click here for info on AMSOIL Torque-Drive™ Synthetic Transmission Fluid.

Bob Riley sells this stuff at a discount from www.dieselsitetoo.com, but he hasn't updated his website to include this new product, so call him and chew him out. And Ford says you should NOT use the AMSOIL Universal ATF because it meets MERCON V requirements, so pay attention and get the right product.

And, both of these will work on both of my trucks? Please pardon my ignorance.

Thanks so much for your information, Smokey.

Re: Synthetic tranny fluid types (specific)?

Mobil 1 and Amsoil are both good.
I, however run Royal Purple for the last 50k miles.
Had never had any probelms. Tranny shifts consistently and runs cooler.
To order try go to www.rpmoil.com

Re: Synthetic tranny fluid types (specific)?

PStroke,

If I choose to go with Royal Purple...I'd order the SynchroMax ManualTrans for my 2000?

Thanks, much.

Re: Synthetic tranny fluid types (specific)?

I can't help you with the oils you choose, cause I went with Red Line in both my trucks. I used the D4 ATF full synthetic, in the trannys and t-cases. It made the 6 speed shift a whole lot better.

Re: Synthetic tranny fluid types (specific)?

Thats right - SynchroMax for the Manual tranny, But I think if you were to change the X-fer case fluid you would need to use the Max ATF.
Hope this helps

Your manual tranny in the Y2K PSD requires MERCON ATF. So yes, both of those will work fine and dandy.

I don't know anything about the '95, but it's off topic in this forum, so ask about that one in the '94-'97 PSD forum.

Smokey, I was just on the Mobil 1 website, (after you corrected me on the Mercon III thing ) and they have a couple of ATF products. One being Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF ( MERCON rated), which is what you're buying. They also have what they call a Multi-Vehicle ATF which is the combo Mercon/Mercon V. It's a synthetic blend.

I haven't seen anywhere where someone has had trouble with Mercon V in a 6-speed or a note in the user's manual warning against it. But then again, I haven't heard of anyone using it. With the specified fluid available, why would anyone want to use anything different?

Sorry, Smokey....just trying to kill two birds with one stone.

I'll bring it to that forum.

Thanks again for the information.
