Synthetic Transmission Fluid

I recently purchased a 2002 PSD 7.3 F-350 current mileage is 41K
My question is... Is there a way to tell if the transmission has Synthetic or Mercon ATF transmission fluid?

Re: Synthetic Transmission Fluid

Hi -

I assume your question is whether the tranny is filled with Synthetic or Dino ATF (hopefully it is Mercon).

without running tests, it is hard to tell.

If you try to cook it, the dino will burn easier - but I think it would be easier to refill the tranny with whatever you want....

Unless you know the history - might be a good idea anyway. Flush out and refill with dino - you can always switch to synthetic..

Re: Synthetic Transmission Fluid

When I buy a used truck I service EVERYTHING right away unless I get detailed service records with the truck. You never know how it was treated in its past life. So you might as well start off on the right foot.
