tachometer not working right

I got in my truck this morning and the tachometer doesen't work until I get above 1500 rpm any suggestions early 99

Early 99 F-350
5" straight pipe,overboost 4 way chip, rebuilt auto trans, guages,

Just guessing but the factory tach is fed from the pcm reading signal from the cps, eliminate the cps since the truck does start and eliminate wiring issues between pcm and tach since it does work over 1500rpm. Sounds like the gauge has gone south.
