Texaco oil

Normally use Rotella T but my mechanic swears by Texaco products. Let him use it last time. Truck now definitely louder and idle has very slight hunt. It's going to the recycling tank today and back to Rotella. Anyone have input on Texaco oil? Rich

Re: Texaco oil

was the oil even rated for diesel use? Plain ol ordinary oil is subject to foaming, which the hpop and injectors do not get along with.

Re: Texaco oil

I'm sure Texaco produces fine lube oil, but it has been talked about, here in many threads, how picky the 6.0 can be about oil. Mine is not, but many have found one brand to be better than another for their particular truck.

Re: Texaco oil

I used Texaco Ursa in my 97 PSD. I used it for about a year in my 2000 then switched to Rotella because my source for the Ursa went away.

Re: Texaco oil

It could be that you got ahold of some of that new CJ-4 oil designed for the newer low emission diesels. That stuff came out about mid October. It would be called Texaco Ursa Premium TDX EC. It has considerably reduced SAPS (sulfated ash, phosphorus, sulfur). Don't know if that would cause your concerns or not.

Texaco is Chevron. We know Chevron Delo 400 oils are exceptionally good. Chevron's Texaco labeled oils can't be that much different, and may even be the same. The Texaco Ursa Super Plus and Extra Duty diesel oils don't come in a 15W-40 grade. So count them out. But Texaco's Ursa Premium TDX (non-EC) does come in 15W-40, and it is CI-4 rated for our older diesels. This is the only Texaco oil I would use.
