Transfer Case Bearing?

Hi everyone. So while driving the other day, I starting hearing a squeaking sound that sounded like a bearing going bad. After I jacked up the truck, spun the wheel and noticed my axle was spinning and the driveshaft going to the transfer case. Took my autolock off and spun the driveshaft with my hand. The squeaking seems to be coming from the end by the transfer case. Is there a bearing inside the transfer case that can go bad? Thanks in advance.--Patrick

Yes, you could have a bad bearing, but the first thing I'd try is to check/change the lube in the t-case. It takes ~2 quarts of ATF. If it fixes the squeak, you should be OK for a while.

You might also check the cardan joint, comprised of two u-joints and a centering ball. Or just remove the front DS and try turning the t-case flange to see if the squeak is still there. The cardan joint is a pain to repair, so if it turns out to be the problem, you may want to drop the DS off at a driveline shop and have them take care of it for you.
