99 ford f350...For some reason my transfer case shifter wouldnt stay in the two wheel drive setting and would occasionly try to engage the four wheel drive setting. But the shifter would get stuck in between while i was driving and be grinding the whole time. While i usually noticed it pretty quickly i didnt always catch it soon enough and know some damage has been done. Now when i engage the four wheel drive it just grinds most of the time and some times catches for intermittent four wheel drive. Does the whole thing need rebuilt or just a particular part/parts. And what are my costs looking like. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Not sure which one is in your truck... mine is an NP 273 F. Do a search for NP273 or whatever yours is. Tag should be on the back side of it halfway between rear and front driveshafts. I saw NP273 at around $695 rebuilt. You can get rebuild kit and do it yourself but not sure on those.

I rebuilt mine, it actually was pertty simple to do, depends on how mechanically inclined you are. you might check with your local Transmission shop and see if they got a used on in that's good they might let it go cheep... or rebuild yours. i also got my parts from the transmission shop, parts were cheep
