Transmission broken

My 2003 transmission has reverse but no foward drive,
It only has 36225 miles on it and has never pulled anything large that a 14 foot motorcycle trailer.
Does anyone have a clue as to what is broken ?
The fluid level is ok and does not smell burner.
The only thing I have noticed lately is that the trans temp has been running around 180 running empty which is higher than it normaly runs.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Transmission broken

If I were you, I would check out the tranny shifter solenoid and the pedal assembly. The shifter solenoid is on the outside of the tranny on the driver's side and has been known to go bad and do wierd things to the tranny shifting. A bad pedal assembly can do the same thing. Both are around $100 each and take about 10 minutes to change out. The '02's were very bad for these 2 items going out and many have thought they had lost their tranny's only to find out later that it was these two items that were bad. Too late, they had already spent $4,000 on new tranny and TC.

Re: Transmission broken

Will it move in Manual 1 and 2?? If you have no forward movement in any ranges, I would recommend air testing the forward clutch and checking seperator gaskets for tears. If you get forward in Manual 1 and 2, try shifting to drive after manual shifting from Manual 1, 2, into drive. If you get 3 and 4 after manual shifting, most likely have a bad low 1-way clutch. Electrical components will not cause a no engagement concern.

Foward in manual 1 or 2 is very very slugish. If I rev the motor at all it wont move. But if I start our real slow and let it build speed and the transmission shifts to 3 Im on my way.

Guess the Transmission has to come out to put in the oneway clutch.

Re: Transmission broken

If it is sluggish in man 1 and 2, I'm guessing your gonna need more than a 1-way. The pcm commands higher pressure in man 1 and 2. If it feels sluggish, most likely the forward clutch plates are burnt or you have a torn seal. The higher pressures in man 1 and 2 are enough to clamp the forward clutch to get movement, but not enough to hold when you accell. Drop you pan and see what it looks like.
